Fort Hood is the largest United States Army installation in land area, and is perhaps the largest military base in the world (Fort Benning is larger in personnel). Fort Hood is home to 3rd Corps, 1st Cavalry Division, the 4th Infantry Division, and the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment along with several other echelon unit. Fort Hood is located next to Killeen, Texas about an hour from Austin and Waco. Fort Hood was the first Army base to privatize post housing under the (RCI) residential communities’ initiative. Fort Hood post housing was turned over to RCI through a privatized partnership with Actus Lend Lease operating as Fort Hood Family Housing.
